SILVER JEWELS ༄
WHAT IS STERLING SILVER? 𓇼
925 Sterling silver is a high-quality silver alloy that contains 92.5% pure silver and 7.5% other metals, typically copper. This combination gives the silver added strength and durability, making it more suitable for jewellery and other items than pure silver, which is too soft and malleable. The "925" stamp you often see on sterling silver pieces indicates its purity level. This alloy is popular for its beautiful shine and is commonly used in making rings, necklaces, bracelets, and other accessories.
DOES SILVER TARNISH? 𓇼
Silver is more prone to tarnishing from oxidisation than other precious metals, which can cause its surface to discolour. You can help prevent this by cleaning and storing your silver correctly.
There is no specific duration over which silver jewellery will tarnish, so we recommend lightly cleaning after each wear.
HOW TO CLEAN SILVER? 𓇼
Since silver is so soft, care must be taken when cleaning to retain the texture and finish of the metal and avoid damage or scratches.
EVERYDAY CLEANING:
To remove dirt, smudges and oils from the surface, you should polish your silver regularly with a soft polishing cloth or soft 100% cotton cloth. Never used coarse fabrics as this will result in scratching.
CAN SILVER BE WORN IN WATER? 𓇼
Silver jewellery can be safely worn in both salty seawater and freshwater. We recommend always rinsing your jewellery in freshwater and drying with a soft 100% cotton cloth after water exposure to remove moisture that may speed up tarnishing.
We do not recommend exposing your jewellery to any chlorinated water. Harsh chemicals can damage the finish of your jewellery.
GOLD JEWELS ༄
WHAT IS 18 KARATE GOLD VERMEIL? 𖤓
Gold vermeil refers to a variety of gold-coated metal. For metal to be considered vermeil, it needs to meet three main trade criteria:
- The base of the metal must be of sterling (92.5%) or fine (99.9%) silver. This is why vermeil is also known by its other names: Silver Gilt or Gilded Silver.
- The purity of the gold must be of at least 10 karats.
- The thickness of the gold coat should consist of a minimum of 2.5 microns (0.0025 millimeters)
If these three criteria are not met, then the metal becomes gold-filled or gold-plated.
DOES GOLD VERMEIL TARNISH? 𖤓
Unlike gold-plated pieces, gold vermeil will last longer. With proper maintenance and care, vermeil jewelry can last a long time, but they are still susceptible to tarnishing. The gold layer on top will react to sweat, perfume and mechanical wear and tear.
HOW TO CLEAN GOLD VERMEIL? 𖤓
- Dip a soft, lint-free cloth into a cleaning solution containing 1 to 2 drops of all-natural dish soap and warm water.
- Gently rub your gold vermeil to remove dirt and grime.
- Thoroughly wash your jewelry with lukewarm water, ensuring there’s no soap residue.
- Blot dry with a cotton or microfiber cloth.
- Rinse the paste away by running the vermeil item under warm running water and wiping it gently with a soft clean cloth.
- Dry the vermeil with a soft dry clean cloth.
- Buff it to bring back the shine.
CAN GOLD VERMEIL BE WORN IN WATER? 𖤓
Gold vermeil can withstand some exposure to water, such as washing your hands or showering, but it should not be submerged in water for long periods of time, such as swimming or bathing.
This is because water can cause the gold layer to wear off faster, especially if it contains chlorine, salt or other chemicals.
